Homestyle Salisbury Steak with Creamy Onion Gravy

Tender homemade Salisbury steaks are simmered in a rich, creamy onion gravy and served over mashed potatoes for an easy comfort food dinner the whole family will love.

Ingredients
  

For the Salisbury Steaks
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 T ketchup
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
For the Creamy Onion gravy
  • 1 T butter
  • 1 T oil
  • 2 T butter
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 T flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Better than Bouillon, beef flavor
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • black pepper, to taste

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, diced onion, and all seasonings including Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until combined.
  2. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat the butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown patties for about 4 minutes each side. remove to a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter. Add the sliced onions and cook for 8-10 minutes until softened and slightly golden.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  7. Stir in half-and-half , Worcestershire sauce, Better than bouillon, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper.
  8. Return the patties to the skillet
  9. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and the gravy has thickened.
  10. Serve hot over mashed potatoes with your favorite vegetable.
