Sausage Country Gravy

A simple, creamy sausage country gravy made with pork sausage, flour, and milk. This classic homemade breakfast gravy is perfect served over warm biscuits.
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 4 Tablespoons butter (optional if sausage is lean)
  • !/4 cup flour ( add a little more if needed)
  • 2 cups milk to start (add more for desired creaminess)
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste
  • All-purpose seasoning salt (optional)

Method

  1. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking into small pieces as it browns.
  2. If the sausage is not very greasy, add the butter and allow it to melt.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir well so the flour coats the meat.
  4. Cook the flour mixture for about 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
  5. Slowly pour in about 2 cups milk, stirring constantly.
  6. Let the gravy simmer until thickened. Add more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and seasoning to taste.
  8. Serve over hot fresh biscuits.

Notes

If the gravy becomes to thick, simply stir in a little more milk.
For extra flavor, add plenty of freshly cracked black pepper.
