Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 5-6 medium green apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 11/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 T flour or cornstarch
  • 2 T melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
Crumbly Butter Topping
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Butter a 9×9 baking dish
  3. In a large bowl or you can just use the baking dish itself to mix all ingredients combine the sliced apples, brown and white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, vanilla, melted butter, and salt. Toss until apples are evenly coated.
  4. Spread the apple mixture into baking dish
  5. In a separate bowl, stir together flour , sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  6. Pour in the melted butter and vanilla. Stir with a fork until crumbly. The mixture should form moist clumps rather than a smooth batter.
  7. Sprinkle the topping evenly over apples.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and you can see it bubbling.
  9. Allow the cobbler to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
Serving Suggestions
  1. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of freshly whipped cream
  2. Granny smith apples work especially well because their tart flavor balances the sweetness of the topping.
For an extra caramelized finish, sprinkle a tablespoon of brown sugar over the topping during the last 10 minutes of baking.
Leftovers can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
